My Louisville Selfish Guide

Hi Louisville friends - this week’s blog post is specifically for you. In case you are new around here, my podcast Selfish preaches the importance of self-care, as a matter of fact, we are spinning the word selfish around and making it a positive. I have found myself getting into the fall craziness of events and activities planned every weekend and soaking up the last bit of long days and warm weather before I hibernate for the winter. As a result, I have needed to take a few extra deep breaths to keep my anxiety levels down, so I thought you might be in the same boat. When I feel my muscles tighten I know its time to head to one of my favorite self-care locations in Louisville.

Louisville Salt Cave

The Cave is the place to go if you only have 45 minutes (or less) and need some instant relaxation. They offer lunchtime specials to get you in and out the door on your lunch break, but as soon as the Cave’s door closes you will instantly feel the tension melt away. I love taking a notepad and pen in with me because as I am calming down I have such mental clarity that I am able to write down all the things I normally would forget. You feel refreshed and focused when leaving.

The Parklands at Floyds Fork

Whatever floats your boat as far as an outdoor activity, you can get it in at The Parklands at Floyds Fork. The Park has multiple sections, each with different features; a spray park, canoeing, fishing, hiking, biking, just open fields to start a soccer game, seriously the possibilities are endless. I really enjoy living in the city, but being able to go here and immediately feeling connecting to nature and not feeling like I’m in the city at all.

Meridian Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine

When you talk about wellness in Louisville, many people think of Meridian Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine first. Whether you are seeing the practitioners here for acupuncture, massage, cupping, or for herbal medicine, you will be blown away by their knowledge. With herbal medicine, they are able to provide raw herbs specifically targeted at the areas of concern. They then cook and can the herbs for you. I had never felt better when I was taking the herbs I got from here. I would tell them I was having headaches and the next week another herb would be included that made a significant improvement for my headaches.

Meridian Integrative Wellness

Right next door, and with a similar name, is Merdian Integrative Wellness, here you will find practitioners dedicated to improving your health and well-being through community learning and one-on-one partnership. They offer health coaching, tai chi classes, culinary and nutrition classes, trauma counseling and couples therapy. I have attended a few meditation classes and I’m blown away and how helpful they are. I hear from so many people that they struggle with meditation - this would be a great place to start if you are looking to have someone coach you on how to get started with meditating.

There are MANY more self-care escapes in Louisville - this list just scratches the surface. I’m sure at some point there will be a part 2 and maybe even a part 3.

Where do you go to escape when things get crazy?
